Since the beginning of the 20th century, the first steps were taken to become interested in a specialized practice of medicine dedicated to women. In countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Argentina the clinical and surgical practice is developing. On July 1, 1908 they appear as historical data of the Foundation of the Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Buenos Aires since then with periodic meetings and thus appears the First Argentine Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology from 9 to 15 August 1931.
On October 15, 1935, the Chilean Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology was created. The first antecedent of organization of the Mexican Obstetrics-Gynecology occurred in the year 1945 with the foundation of the Mexican Association of Gynecology and Obstetrics. On June 30, 1947, with 24 members and chaired by Dr. Constantino J. Carvallo; son of who is considered the father of the Peruvian Gynecology Dr. Constantino T Carvallo; the Peruvian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (SPOG) was founded.
November 7, 1947, Dr. Julio A. Lavergne summons his colleagues in his residence located in Panama City to start the Panamanian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
FECASOG: It was constituted in May of 1949 by representatives of Associations and Societies of Obstetrics and Gynecology and as founding members consist of Guatemala Dr. Osberto Rosales and A. González, by El Salvador Dr. Salvador Batista Mena, by Nicaragua Dr. F. Robleto Gallo , for Costa Rica Dr. Max Terán Valls and Marino Urpí and for Panama Dr. Julio Armando Lavergne.
FEBRASGO - founded on October 30, 1959, in the city of Belo Horizonte. Since the 1940s an integrationist interest has been lived in Latin America and the first steps are being taken to direct actions towards the creation of a grouping Integrate all colleagues in Latin America. In historical documents of the Society of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay there are annotations in which Dr. Augusto Turenne proposes the integration of the Associations of the countries in a single institution.
In the minutes of the Chilean Society of August 1946, a formal petition of Dr. Raúl García Valenzuela proposes a Latin American "Association" of obstetricians and gynecologists.
During the period 1948-1949 in the presidency of the Chilean Society of Dr. Víctor Avilés B. together with the colleagues of the Societies of Uruguay and Argentina, he promoted the basis for the signing in March 1949 of the First Convention ratified in October same year in Buenos Aires integrating its first Permanent Committee Drs. Américo Stábile, J. Alberto Castro and José Aguirre on behalf of the Gynecological Society of Uruguay corresponding to draft the first draft of the Statute.
IN 1952, FROM 26 TO 31 OCTOBER, THE FIRST LATIN AMERICAN CONGRESS OF OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY IS PERFORMED IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA UNDER THE PRESIDENCY OF DR. NORMANDO ARENAS. With the periodicity established by the Statute, congresses are held in Brazil (1954), Mexico (1958), Colombia (1962), Chile (1966), Costa Rica (1970), Ecuador (1973), Peru (1978), Dominican Republic (1981), Venezuela (1984), Guatemala, (1987) Uruguay (1990) Panama (1993) Paraguay (1996) El Salvador (1999) Bolivia (2002) Dominican Republic (2005).
At the end of his work as executives at FLASOG, doctors Alfonso Alvarez Bravo, Luis Castelazo Ayala and J. Martin Giménez Miranda in 1966 drafted a document on "The History of FLASOG".
Similarly, at the end of their work as members of the Executive Committee 1966-1970 doctors Arturo Aparicio Jaramillo, Fernando Sanchez Torres and Carlos Casas Santofimio published a book entitled "History of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Latin America" collecting historical documents from 14 countries members of FLASOG. The membership of the FLASOG is made up of the active members of each of the Societies or Federations with figures higher than 20 thousand members.
